The Herbal Remedy For Anxiety

By Neil Redfern

There have been treatments for years for anxiety such as psychological therapy, traditional antidepressants, serotonin reuptake inhibitors and relaxants. Today we have herbal remedies for anxiety that treat the anxiety in a more natural and safer way. Some of those are Valeriana, Lavandula, Melissa, Passifloria, Matricaria and St John's Wort.

To have an effective treatment of anxiety, it is vital that you combine herbal therapy with other anxiety management techniques. The most popular methods suggested by modern psychologists include talk therapy, diet, rest, entertaining activities, relaxation, therapeutic massage, positive thinking and visualization, meditation, yoga and many others.

The most widely used herb for inducing relaxation is chamomile. Because of its mild nature it is often used in children.

The flower of the Linden tree makes good herbal tea. Native Americans use it to treat headaches and stomachaches that are caused by anxiety. Do not overuse this herb because it can affect the heart. Please, use it sparingly.

Another herbal remedy for anxiety is Scullcap which is a mild sedative. Scullcap is used to treat twitching, panic attacks, heart palpitations, and epilepsy induced by extreme anxiety.

The amino acid, L-theanine, is derived from Green Tea. This is another herbal remedy for anxiety and it has a significant ant-anxiety effect. It has been reported that L-theanine works as well as the prescription anti-anxiety medication. L-theanine is not addictive or habit forming.

An effective herbal remedy for anxiety and related conditions that is effective is Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata). As with Valerian, it's important to use a standardized Passion Flower extract with at least 3-4% vitexin. When you combine the herbal supplement, Passion Flower with Valerian, it will be more effective than either herb taken alone.

Several herbs exhibit potent anti-anxiety effects. When manufactured correctly and administered in the right dosages, a handful of herbs for anxiety has been reported to effectively relieve anxiety. The herbs that are most likely to be successful are those backed by solid clinical research. It is vital to take an herb for anxiety that provides herbal extracts in the proven doses and potencies. - 32513
