10 Effective Methods to Control Anxiety

1. Breathe One thing that many people notice when they have an anxiety attack is that they feel short of breath. If your breathing feels restricted, your anxiety will get worse, so take some time and breathe in deeply and in a controlled fashion when you feel an attack coming on.

2. Get rid of stimulants Because anxiety is a fight or flight response, get rid of things that can make you more apt to be tense and alert. This means that you might want to look into getting rid of things like tea, soda, and coffee.

3. Eat small meals One thing that can contribute to anxiety is a drop in blood sugar. Your blood sugar has a lot to do with your mood, so start eating many small meals rather than a large meal that will give you a blood sugar drop when you least expect it.

4. Exercise Get out and start a running program or take up a form of dance or aerobics that relaxes you. This can help you get rid of your fight or flight instinct, and it can make you healthier in the long run.

5. Get away from it all. When you are feeling overwhelmed, there is nothing wrong with shutting yourself away for a few moments until you feel more capable of dealing with things. A little bit of quiet can go a long way, so take some time, and consider where you can get away to.

6. Company When you are dealing with anxiety, it can sometimes help to know that there are people that you can depend on. Are there people who comfort you, and who care about you? Do not shut them out; they want to know what is going on with you.

7. Eat right The more simple your food, the happier you will be. Get lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, and you will feel yourself processing much better.

8. Get help There is no shame in accepting professional help, so if necessary, consult with a counselor who can put you on the right track.

9. Relax! What relaxes you? Do you love to watch silly movies, or do you love making beads out of glass? Remember that it is okay for you to take time to relax and that no matter how busy you get, your hobbies will keep you calm.
